Our Story

Hi, I’m Aidan, owner and operator of The Art Of SMART.

Growing up in New Zealand I always had a passion for anything automotive, so finishing school and going into the automotive industry was natural for me. Choosing which part of that industry was the hard part!

I eventually found an after school job at a local smash repairer sweeping floors and washing cars. I progressed onto the tools and soon after I was offered a full time position as a “prepper”. Eventually my employer saw the potential in me and I was offered an apprenticeship in Automotive Refinishing. Needless to say I leaped at the opportunity.

Once finishing my time as an apprentice and becoming trade qualified, I continued to hone my skills and kept working for the same company, until I decided it was time to “cross the ditch” to the land of milk and honey – Australia.

I landed in Melbourne and hit the ground running, finding a job in a matter of days at a prestigious smash repairer in Heidelberg West. But Victoria wasn’t the place for me. Less than three months after arriving in Australia I found myself on a plane to Perth, WA. I found work in Osborne Park at a busy workshop and settled in to life on the West Coast.

I continued working in smash repairs for another 3 years until I decided it was time for a change. I dipped my toe in the waters of commercial spray painting and spent the next two years refurbishing and touching up forklifts and all things lift trucks. Eventually painting the same boring colours day in, day out, became less appealing and it was time to get back into cars. But mobile! I started with a local Perth company and began to learn the ropes and how to adapt my skills to work without the controlled conditions of a workshop and spray booth. After 18 months of being an employee, I realised it was time to go out on my own. The Art Of SMART was born.

Being the owner/operator means that all responsibility lies with me. I operate my business with a high level of communication, integrity, transparency, and pride. I look forward to providing you with the highest level of quality workmanship with the convenience of a mobile service.
